In the differential housing illustrated, the intrinsic challenge was not in making the casting blanks available, but in their machining. In the previous part which has already been produced under series conditions, the combined machining of the trough-passing thread between bearing bracket and housing was performed on special machines in an air-conditioned atmosphere due to the very narrow tolerance fields. However, these manufacturing conditions were not acceptable when outsourcing the production abroad as it was considered. ACTech GmbH was given the order to produce prototypes of the new differential housing and also to work out a manufacturing strategy, ensuring the assembly's function on general-purpose CNC machining centers with few tolerance requirements.
With the manufacturing strategies developed for this purpose, the customer could implement the solution abroad with no difficulties. In this engineering project, the customer not only made use of the ACTech GmbH capacity to make prototypes quickly and inexpensively, but also benefited from their experience when machining the prototypes.
