Pilot- and small batch production

After inspection and possible correction of the first prototype, it is usual to continue the practice tests with small batches. Here, depending on the casting, 5 to 100 pieces are used; the prototype’s features have to be commensurable with the series part’s material and manufacturing technology.

For these purposes, a combination of Laser-sintering of Croning®-molding material and conventional techniques such as models made by CNC milling, could provide a solution. Laser-sintering allows low-cost production of complicated geometries without using a mold. In this way it is possible to produce castings whose characteristics are identical to those of the series parts’, even in small batch production, quickly and profitably.

However, investment in modeling equipment remains minimal also in small batch production: In modeling equipment design, we consequently use the geometric opportunities for laser-sintering of Croning®-molding material, which are practically unlimited, to reduce the modeling equipment necessary.
