Aluminum for castings

Lightweight, high strength, corrosion-resistant and highly machinable – as a casting material, aluminum offers many advantageous characteristics. It is no wonder that aluminum castings are becoming increasingly important across the complete bandwidth of industries. At ACTech, we manufacture aluminum castings in sand and investment casting technology from all aluminum-silicon alloys in compliance with DIN EN 1706. In addition, we realize individual alloy variants and enable the precise parameterization of further material properties thanks to supplementary treatment methods.

  • Light metal with various applications
  • Excellent castability

  • Good corrosion resistance and machinability

Rapid prototyping with aluminum

In terms of flexibility, aluminum as a casting material has the edge: Whilst classic all-round alloys are suitable for (almost) every project, it is above all special alloys that make aluminum casting so interesting. And for all industries: Plant and mechanical engineering, maritime applications and the automotive sector – aluminum for the production of prototypes is in demand more than ever before. To ensure that the finished casting delivers what it promises, the aluminum alloy must be 100% compatible with the respective requirements. At ACTech this is a parameter you can always rely on.

We cast standardized AlSi alloys as well as individual alloy variants with copper or magnesium additions. This enables us to adapt the material for your aluminum prototype even more precisely. Furthermore, our tried-and-proven casting and heat treatment technologies enable us to achieve e.g. higher elongation, greater thermal resistance and improved thermal conductivity. However, that's not enough for us – in order to continuously optimize our aluminum casting we carry out regular material tests and update our materials portfolio on an ongoing basis. Material standard: DIN EN 1706

Typical applications:

  • Vehicle parts

  • Gearbox housing

  • Aviation parts

  • Weight
As a light metal, aluminum weighs significantly less than steel or cast iron

  • Machinability
Aluminum castings are highly suited for CNC machining

  • Further properties
High corrosion resistance, good weldability, good strength

FAQ

Can the material properties of parts be specifically addressed?

Can the material properties of parts be specifically addressed?

The material properties of a casting can be influenced on the one hand by the chemical composition of the alloy, and on the other, by various heat treatment parameters.

Which weights can be cast in aluminum?

Which weights can be cast in aluminum?

In terms of weight, aluminum parts at ACTech range from several grams to several hundred kilograms. Several aluminum furnaces in our prototype foundry make it possible to change alloys quickly, thus providing more flexibility in relation to the size and quantity of castings.
